FAQs

Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here is what you can expect from our time together.

I’ve never been to therapy before. What should I expect during the first session?

1

It is completely normal to feel a bit nervous if you've never done this before. The first session is simply a relaxed, low-pressure intake conversation. We will review your paperwork, discuss what brought you in, and map out your goals. There is zero pressure to dive into deep or heavy topics right away—it is mostly about getting comfortable and ensuring we are a good fit.

What actually goes on inside a standard therapy session?

2

Think of it as a dedicated, private space focused entirely on your growth. We will look at current stressors, unpack emotional patterns, and build practical coping tools. You are always in the driver's seat regarding what you share and the pace we move at.

How long are sessions and how long will I be in therapy?

3

Standard individual sessions last 50 minutes. The overall timeline is entirely unique to you. Some clients find resolution or relief within a few months, while others prefer ongoing, long-term support. We will check in regularly to evaluate your progress.

Will I be judged or told what to do?

4

Therapy is a completely non-judgmental, collaborative space. A therapist’s job isn't to lecture you, take sides, or give unsolicited advice. Instead, we work side-by-side to help you gain clarity and make choices that align with your values.

Is medication the only solution, or can talk therapy alone help?

5

Medication can be a helpful tool for some, but it is far from the only solution. While medication can manage symptoms, talk therapy gets to the root of the issue—helping you understand your patterns, develop emotional resilience, learn coping skills, and create lasting behavioral changes that medication alone cannot provide.

How can I get the most out of my therapy experience?

6

The best way to maximize therapy is to be as honest and open as possible, even when it feels uncomfortable. Change also happens outside the room, so tracking your insights, practicing your new coping tools, and reflecting on our conversations between sessions will help you see the best results.
